Beechboi Furniture was founded by Gijs Knol in 2024. With a background in music as a self-employed professional, he developed a growing interest in other crafts and in creating objects in the physical realm.
As a composer, his eye for meticulous detail translated into well-orchestrated musical pieces. Nowadays, that same eye for detail translates into furniture pieces crafted with the same level of precision and personal touch.
Gijs trained as an artisanal woodworker at the Beemsterschool voor Meubelmaken, where he now teaches the craft, and graduated this year as a furniture maker at the Hout & Meubileringscollege in Amsterdam.
The furniture
Beechboi makes handcrafted slow furniture, often made of solid wood, wood veneer, and reclaimed or locally sourced materials, finished to a high standard with attention to every detail — designed as personal, lasting heirlooms for generations to come.
That's the philosophy: to make timeless everyday objects that are a joy to use, touch, or simply look at.
Acquire
Alongside the objects showcased or for sale on this website, I create custom furniture pieces and objects.
For example, you can request items like a bespoke jewellery or ring box, tea chest, coffee or side table, stool, nightstand, or small floor or wall cabinet, or a lamp — for yourself or as a gift for a loved one.
All made with solid wood, hand tools, and a mix of traditional Western and Japanese joinery.
Process
If you have an idea in mind for an object you'd like me to make, please reach out, and we'll discuss options such as design, wood species, size, and accessories. I can then give you a rough price estimate, and if you're happy to proceed, I'll start working on the design and drawing of the final piece. Once you give the green light, I'll begin producing your piece.
Lead time may vary depending on complexity and the availability of my time and materials, but I can usually get started within a few weeks.

All European solid beechwood side-table. Can also be used as a 1-person small desk or writing table. Half-dovetails in drawer front. Rounded tabletop corners and legs and large bevel at the underside. Custom beech drawer handle and wooden drawer slides. Continues grain on the drawer front.

Maintain with Osmo products only, for a small extra fee a maintenance product will be supplied.
This jig is probably one of the most basic, yet most useful tools in your workshop. Made from carefully selected beechwood, assembled together in such way the squareness will be more guaranteed over time. The underside of the jig has high-quality abrasive paper in 180 grid, so that when clamping pressure is applied, the jig will remain in its position. The grid size is selected so that it won’t leave any dents in your workpiece.
